Shashank Singh's 50 off 15 carries India past Bangladesh to 11th place in Hong Kong

India ended a chastening Hong Kong Sixes with a last-ball win over Bangladesh in the 11th place play-off at Mission Road Ground

Shashank Singh's 50 from 15 balls carried India to 117 for 1 in reply to Bangladesh's 116 for 5, the target reached with no balls remaining on the final day of the tournament in Mong Kok.

It was the only match Krunal Pandya's side won all week. India lost both their Group C games, to Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, and then went out of the Bowl competition to England by three runs, which left the play-off as the one fixture still in front of them.

Krunal took the best bowling figures of the match, 3-25 from his two overs, and was named player of the match.

Abu Hider's 62 sets the target

India won the toss and chose to field, and Bangladesh used the conditions well enough to post 116 for 5 from their six overs.

Abu Hider top-scored with 62 from 18 balls, the innings that gave Bangladesh something to defend, and Habibur Sohan added 18 from six.

Krunal was the only bowler to slow the scoring, taking three wickets for 25 in his two overs. Rahul Tripathi, bowling the other end, finished with 1-26 from his single over.

Shashank Singh keeps India ahead of the rate

The chase needed better than 19 an over and India were ahead of it almost from the start.

Shashank reached 50 from 15 balls, and Tripathi made 32 from 12 before Ahrar Amin bowled him in the third over. Amin's 1-20 was the only wicket India lost.

India brought up the target on the last ball of the innings, closing on 117 for 1.

Bangladesh's bowlers were left with little room for error once Shashank got away, and Abu Hider's own over went for 16 without a wicket.

A campaign that never got going

India arrived in Hong Kong with a squad drawn almost entirely from the IPL and lost their opening match to Pakistan, who chased down 88 for 5 in 3.5 overs.

The United Arab Emirates then beat them by six wickets, reaching 97 without loss in 4.2 overs after India had made 94, a result that put India bottom of Group C and into the Bowl draw.

Defeat there sent India into the 11th place play-off, the last fixture of a tournament in which the Bowl draw decides the lower half of the field.

The Bowl semi-final was the closest they came to a win in open competition. Rahul Tripathi's 56 from 14 balls and Krunal's 28 from seven took India to 121, but England had made 124 for 2 through Martin Andersson's 51 from 13 and Ed Barnard's unbeaten 35.

An IPL-stocked squad under a new captain

Krunal led a seven-man squad of Shashank Singh, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tewatia, T Natarajan and Kulwant Khejroliya.

Natarajan had top-scored for India against the UAE a day earlier, and Shashank's 40 from 11 balls against Pakistan was the other individual effort of note before this play-off.

The tournament closes in Mong Kok

The win leaves India 11th of the twelve teams at a tournament they last contested with a full-strength squad of IPL names.

Bangladesh finish 12th after a week of narrow margins of their own, having lost their Bowl semi-final to South Africa, who chased down 129 for 4 by reaching 132 for 5.

Scotland took third place earlier on the final day, making 135 for 1 and beating the United Arab Emirates by 45 runs after the UAE closed on 90 for 3.

England and South Africa met in the Bowl final, and Afghanistan face Australia in the final itself at Mission Road Ground.

Scorecard: Bangladesh 116 for 5 (6 overs); India 117 for 1 (6 overs). India won by five wickets with no balls remaining.
