Mitchell Marsh Ruled Out of Pakistan Tour as Australia Hand Inglis Captaincy

Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of Australia national cricket team’s upcoming ODI series against Pakistan national cricket team after suffering an ankle injury during IPL 2026.

The injury was picked up while Marsh was representing Lucknow Super Giants, where he enjoyed an outstanding tournament and finished as the franchise’s leading run-scorer with 563 runs. Marsh had already missed LSG’s final league-stage fixture against Punjab Kings, and Cricket Australia has now confirmed he will remain in Perth for further assessment and rehabilitation.

In Marsh’s absence, wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis will captain Australia during the three-match ODI series beginning on May 30. Inglis has limited leadership experience at international level but previously led Australia in one ODI and three T20Is against Pakistan in 2024.

Cricket Australia has not announced a replacement for Marsh in the touring squad. His fitness for Australia’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh in June also remains uncertain and will be assessed later.

Australia will already be missing several senior stars for the Pakistan series. Regular ODI captain Pat Cummins, opener Travis Head and fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc are unavailable due to workload management and IPL playoff commitments.

While Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc are also set to miss the Bangladesh tour, Head is expected to rejoin the squad for that assignment.

The ODI series against Pakistan will begin in Rawalpindi before the remaining two matches are played in Lahore, giving Australia an opportunity to test their squad depth ahead of a busy international calendar.
