Patidar Emphasises Calmness and Aggressive Bowling Ahead of Crucial GT Qualifier

Rajat Patidar believes composure under pressure and disciplined execution will be the deciding factors when Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Gujarat Titans in the high-stakes IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 in Dharamsala.

With both teams emerging as the most consistent sides in the tournament over the last few seasons, Patidar acknowledged there is little separating the two franchises. Since 2023, RCB and GT have registered identical win-loss records, setting up what promises to be a closely fought playoff clash.

Patidar stressed that handling pressure moments calmly on the big stage would likely determine which side advances directly to the final. He said both teams possess quality match-winners, making decision-making and execution during crunch situations especially important.

A major reason behind RCB’s impressive campaign has been their bowling attack, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. Patidar praised the aggressive mentality of the bowling group, saying the team’s identity this season has been built around attacking for wickets rather than merely containing runs.

According to the RCB captain, early breakthroughs in the powerplay will once again be central to their strategy against Gujarat Titans. He also highlighted the contributions of Rasikh Salam, whose consistency alongside the senior pacers has strengthened the overall bowling unit.

Patidar also opened up about his captaincy journey, explaining that the presence of experienced players around him has made leadership easier. He credited senior figures such as Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Josh Hazlewood, Tim David and Jitesh Sharma for constantly sharing ideas and tactical input.

The RCB skipper said he has not tried to dramatically change his personality as captain, instead relying on calmness, instinct and game awareness to make decisions under pressure.

Patidar also reserved praise for Venkatesh Iyer, applauding the batter’s patience and professionalism despite limited opportunities earlier in the season. He revealed that Iyer’s commitment in training and willingness to contribute even from outside the playing XI impressed the entire squad, and when the opportunity finally arrived, he was fully prepared to deliver.
