Ainsworth, Hamilton earn Australia central contracts

Australia have rewarded emerging talent and recalled experience in their 2026-27 central contracts list, with uncapped allrounder Chloe Ainsworth and rising left-arm quick Lucy Hamilton earning maiden deals.
Ainsworth’s inclusion is the most eye-catching, given she is yet to feature at international level. The 20-year-old has impressed in domestic cricket, particularly in the Women’s National Cricket League, where her batting flourished, alongside consistent performances for Perth Scorchers in the WBBL. Cricket Australia view her selection as a long-term investment, though she is currently recovering from a foot injury.
Hamilton’s rise, by contrast, has been swift and emphatic. Having debuted across all three formats in March, she has already shown the composure and skill required at the highest level, putting herself firmly in contention for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The contracts list also marks the return of allrounder Nicola Carey, who had previously stepped away from a deal in 2023 but impressed during recent series against India and West Indies. Her contributions with the bat, including a career-best ODI score, played a key role in her recall.
Meanwhile, Grace Harris retains her contract despite missing the West Indies tour, underlining the selectors’ faith in her match-winning abilities.
There are notable omissions. Former captain Alyssa Healy, who has retired, is no longer part of the group, while Tayla Vlaeminck and Tess Flintoff have also been left out as they continue to manage injuries and form.
The 18-player squad will cover a packed international calendar, including the T20 World Cup in England and multiple bilateral series. Players outside the list can still earn upgrades through match appearances, ensuring competition for places remains strong.
Overall, the selections reflect a balance between nurturing future stars and maintaining Australia’s dominance at the top level.
