Jaiswal's unbeaten 155 and Rathod's hundred earn India A a draw at Hagley Oval

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Yash Rathod batted unbroken through the final day at Hagley Oval, adding 247 to carry India A from 35 for 2 to a draw against New Zealand A

India A began the last day of the second unofficial Test 78 runs behind on first innings, and lost two wickets early in the morning. They finished on 282 for 2, 204 in front, the match called off as a draw once Rathod had reached his hundred.

Jaiswal, who was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, made 155 not out from 162 balls with 15 fours and five sixes.

Rathod finished 100 not out from 122 balls with nine fours, the pair adding 247 without being separated.

A duck answered with 155

Jaiswal resumed the final day on 20 not out, and had come into the innings with very little behind him: a duck in India A's first innings here, and 22 runs across his three innings before it.

He reached fifty from 68 balls and his hundred from 119, then needed only 35 more deliveries to move from 100 to 150, taking the sixes off the seamers once the game was safe.

It was his 18th first-class century, and the highest score he has made for India A.

Rathod holds the other end

Sai Sudharsan fell without adding to his overnight score and Devdutt Padikkal was bowled first ball by Brett Randell, which left India A 35 for 2 and still 43 runs behind.

Rathod walked in there and did not give a chance afterwards. The third-wicket stand was worth 247 unbroken by the time the players left the field.

The 26-year-old Vidarbha batter has made 223 runs on this tour, with a century and a fifty, and has been among India A's most productive batters in New Zealand.

Rain had intruded on the final day, and once Rathod completed his century there was nothing left in the match for either side.

Mukesh and Siraj carry the attack

New Zealand A had been 13 for 3 in their only innings before Matt Boyle and Dean Foxcroft put on 208 for the fourth wicket, Boyle making 110 from 152 balls and Foxcroft 93 from 226.

The lower order was no easier to shift. Kristian Clarke made 41 and Fraser Sheat 40, and Jayden Lennox and Jarrod McKay added 55 for the last wicket, each of those stands pushing the game further towards the draw it became.

New Zealand A were eventually bowled out for 424, a lead of 78. Mukesh Kumar took 5-87 from 29 overs and Mohammed Siraj 4-118 from 35, with Washington Sundar taking the last wicket.

India A's first innings of 346 had been built on 105 from Dhruv Jurel and 80 from Padikkal.

What the tour has settled so far

Jaiswal and Jurel are both in India's Test squad for the two matches that close this tour, and both have now made hundreds on it.

Rathod is not in that squad, and the second unofficial Test was the innings that made his case. He has one more match to press it.

Lincoln next, then the Tests

The third and final unofficial Test starts on November 7 at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln, the last cricket either squad plays before the senior series takes over.

India's senior side begins its own tour business first, with the ODI series opening at Eden Park on Wednesday, before the two Tests at the Basin Reserve in Wellington from November 19 and back at Hagley Oval from November 27.

Scorecard: India A 346 and 282 for 2 (Jaiswal 155*, Rathod 100*) drew with New Zealand A 424 (Boyle 110, Foxcroft 93; Mukesh Kumar 5-87, Siraj 4-118) at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
