Taylor’s Ton in Vain as Australia Cruise to 103-Run Win Over West Indies

A brilliant unbeaten century from Stafanie Taylor was not enough to prevent Australia from securing a commanding 103-run victory in the first ODI in St Kitts, as the visitors continued their dominant tour.
Australia posted a formidable total of 341, the highest women’s ODI score recorded in the Caribbean, built on strong contributions across the lineup. Phoebe Litchfield led the way with a fluent 77, while Nicola Carey (49), Sophie Molineux (49), and Ellyse Perry (44) ensured the innings never lost momentum.
After a solid start that saw Australia reach 166 for 1, a brief middle-order wobble threatened to slow progress. However, a 91-run partnership between Carey and Molineux restored control before Georgia Wareham provided a late flourish with a rapid 42 off just 21 balls.
In response, West Indies struggled to keep pace with the steep target despite Taylor’s outstanding effort. She scored 105 not out off 129 balls, registering her eighth ODI century and her first against Australia. Her innings, featuring 10 fours and a six, was a display of resilience, but lacked sufficient support from the rest of the batting lineup.
Australia’s bowlers maintained consistent pressure, with Kim Garth leading the attack with 3 for 37. Wareham capped off an excellent all-round performance with both bat and ball, finishing with 1 for 39 and earning Player of the Match honours.
Despite Taylor’s late milestone, the result was never in doubt as West Indies closed on 238 for 8.
The win gives Australia a strong start to the three-match ODI series, extending their dominant run following a clean sweep in the preceding T20I series.
