Tamim-led BCB boosts domestic pay for men and women cricketers

The new Bangladesh Cricket Board leadership under Tamim Iqbal has made an immediate impact, announcing significant pay increases for both men’s and women’s domestic cricketers in one of its first major decisions after taking charge.

Bangladesh women’s cricket, in particular, has received a long-overdue boost. Match fees have been raised sharply, with players now earning BDT 10,000 for T20 matches, BDT 15,000 for one-day games, and BDT 20,000 for first-class fixtures. Monthly salaries for the top 36 women players have also been increased from BDT 30,000 to BDT 40,000.

Tamim admitted he was surprised by how little women cricketers were earning previously, calling the old structure inadequate. While he acknowledged that the new figures may not yet be ideal, he described them as an important first step toward fairer compensation.

The men’s domestic structure has also been revised. Category A players will now earn BDT 65,000 per month, while those in categories B and C will receive BDT 50,000 and BDT 40,000 respectively. First-class match fees have risen from BDT 70,000 to BDT 100,000, reflecting a broader effort to reward performances and sustain professional standards.

Tamim stressed that domestic players are the backbone of the game in Bangladesh and deserve better financial security. He noted that there had been minimal increments in recent years, making this revision necessary.

The updated salary structure will be implemented from January 1, 2026. Alongside the pay hikes, the new ad-hoc committee is also working to resolve scheduling issues and restart key domestic competitions, including the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.

Overall, the move signals a clear shift in priorities, with player welfare and development now firmly at the forefront of Bangladesh cricket’s agenda.
