RCB beat MI but injury concerns loom over Rohit and Kohli

Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured an 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium, but the result was overshadowed by injury concerns to two of India’s biggest stars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Chasing a daunting target of 241, Mumbai’s hopes took an early hit when Rohit was forced to retire hurt. He looked uncomfortable just a few deliveries into the fifth over, visibly struggling with movement. Despite receiving treatment on the field, Rohit could not continue and walked off after scoring 19 off 13 balls. He did not return for the remainder of the innings, leaving MI without one of their most experienced batters in a steep chase.
Earlier in the match, Kohli too faced a scare. The RCB stalwart appeared to injure his ankle during the first innings and was seen receiving treatment on his left leg. At the time, he was well set on 35, and although he continued to bat, he was eventually dismissed for 50 off 38 balls. Kohli later remained in the dugout as RCB completed the match, raising concerns about his fitness.
Despite these setbacks, RCB delivered a strong performance to register their third win in four matches, moving up to third place on the points table. Their batting firepower and ability to post a massive total proved decisive in the end.
For MI, the loss compounded a difficult start to the season. With just one win in four games and three consecutive defeats, they now sit near the bottom of the table. The added worry of Rohit’s fitness only deepens their challenges going forward.
