Mohammad Amir rejoins Essex for the upcoming Vitality Blast campaign

Mohammad Amir, 33, is set to rejoin Essex for the 2025 Vitality Blast, marking his third stint with the club following previous spells in 2017 and 2019. Across 21 T20 appearances for Essex, he has taken 24 wickets, including 10 at an average of 20.10 in 2019—a season that saw Essex win both the County Championship and the Blast to complete a memorable double.

Internationally, Amir has claimed 71 wickets in 62 T20Is for Pakistan, with an average of 21.64, up to and including the 2024 T20 World Cup. He heads to Chelmsford after a recent run with Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, where he picked up seven wickets in six matches.

“I’m really excited to return to Essex,” Amir said. “This club feels like home to me. The support I’ve received from the team and fans has always been incredible. I’m looking forward to making a positive impact and contributing to the team’s success this season.”

Chris Silverwood, now Essex’s director of cricket and the coach who first brought Amir to the club in 2017, welcomed the signing. “It’s fantastic to have Mo back in Chelmsford,” he said. “His experience and skills will be a great asset to an already strong squad as we push for a successful T20 Blast campaign.”

Amir will don the No. 5 shirt and is available for the entirety of the group stage, with an option to extend his stay should Essex qualify for the knockout rounds.
