MI rope in legspinner Raghu Sharma as replacement for injured Vignesh Puthur

Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed uncapped legspinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for left-arm wristspinner Vignesh Puthur, who has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to bone stress reactions in both shins.

Puthur, who made an impressive IPL debut earlier this season with a three-wicket haul against Chennai Super Kings, picked up six wickets in five matches at an economy of 9.08. Despite the injury, he will stay on with the team to undergo recovery and rehabilitation under MI’s medical and strength & conditioning staff.

Raghu Sharma, 32, steps into the main squad after serving as a net bowler with the franchise. Signed at his base price of INR 30 lakh, this will be his first IPL stint. A domestic journeyman, Raghu has played for Punjab and Puducherry, claiming 57 wickets in 11 first-class matches at an average of 19.59.

MI, after a slow start to the season, have surged into third place on the points table with five consecutive wins, holding 12 points from ten games.
