MCA Launches Women’s T20 Mumbai League with Three Teams for Inaugural Season

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has officially launched the women’s edition of the T20 Mumbai League, marking a significant step in expanding opportunities for women’s cricket in the city.
The announcement was made in Mumbai on Saturday, where India captain Rohit Sharma, the face of the league, unveiled the trophies for both the men’s and women’s tournaments alongside MCA president Ajinkya Naik and T20 Mumbai League governing council chair Rajdip Gupta.
While the men’s competition currently features eight franchises, the inaugural women’s edition will begin with three teams. The teams will be operated by PRS Infraprojects LLP, Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd and World Star Sporting Private Limited. The women’s matches are expected to be staged alongside the men’s tournament soon after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League season.
The MCA has yet to release the schedule for either competition. The fixtures are likely to be finalised after the complete IPL schedule is announced. At present, the IPL has confirmed only its first 20 matches, scheduled from March 28 to April 12, with the remaining fixtures pending due to upcoming elections in several states.
Rohit Sharma said the league has already proved to be a strong platform for emerging cricketers in Mumbai. “We have seen many players from the T20 Mumbai League go on to represent IPL teams and even the national side,” he said, adding that the introduction of a women’s competition would further strengthen the structure of the sport in the city.
Mumbai allrounder Sayali Satghare welcomed the move, calling it an important step for women’s cricket. Satghare recently made her Test debut in Australia at the WACA Ground and was part of the title-winning Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women in the Women’s Premier League.
She said the league would provide young girls with a major platform to compete and dream of representing Mumbai and India in the future. 🏏
