Marsh, Markram, and Rahul heat up the race for the Orange Cap in IPL 2025

Following Delhi Capitals’ (DC) win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday night in Lucknow, the race for the Orange Cap in IPL 2025 became even more intense. Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and KL Rahul all climbed the run-scorers' chart with solid performances.

LSG’s Marsh scored 45 to move into fourth place, while Markram’s classy half-century lifted him to sixth. Rahul’s unbeaten 57, which helped DC seal the victory, pushed him up to seventh on the list.

Nicholas Pooran had a chance to reclaim the top spot from Gujarat Titans’ B Sai Sudharsan but managed only nine runs, keeping him at second. Pooran remains one of three LSG batters in the top six.

Markram now has four fifties in nine matches, and just 18 runs separate him from Marsh. Pooran is 33 ahead of Marsh, while Jos Buttler of GT sits third.

India’s Suryakumar Yadav, at fifth with 333 runs, is the second-highest Indian run-getter this season. Rahul trails him by just ten runs, with Virat Kohli of RCB right behind Rahul at No. 8.

Purple Cap Battle: Tight at the Top

There was little change in the Purple Cap standings after Tuesday’s clash. Prasidh Krishna of GT remains the frontrunner with 16 wickets, maintaining a four-wicket cushion over a crowded group tied at second.

DC’s Kuldeep Yadav and LSG’s Shardul Thakur both went wicketless, remaining among six bowlers tied at second with 12 wickets apiece. That group also includes R Sai Kishore (GT), Noor Ahmad (CSK), Josh Hazlewood (RCB), and Mohammed Siraj (GT).

Mukesh Kumar’s four-wicket burst against LSG catapulted him to joint-16th in the wicket-taking charts, just three wickets off the second-place group.

Mitchell Starc continued his consistent run with 1 for 25 and now has 11 wickets. He’s tied for eighth, only one behind the second-place cluster and five adrift of leader Prasidh.

With the tournament heading into its crucial phase, both the Orange and Purple Cap races are set for thrilling finishes.
