Jos Buttler Eyes England Comeback Despite Tough T20 World Cup Campaign

Former England captain Jos Buttler remains determined to continue his international career despite a disappointing run in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Buttler endured a difficult tournament, scoring just 87 runs across eight innings as England were knocked out in the semi-finals by the India national cricket team. His struggles extend beyond the recent World Cup, with only one half-century across his last four ICC events, raising questions about his future in the side.
However, Buttler, who still has 18 months remaining on his central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board, insists he is not ready to step away. Speaking on his podcast, he admitted his form had dipped but expressed confidence in rediscovering his best.
“I certainly have ambitions to continue playing for England,” Buttler said, while acknowledging that his selection for the upcoming home series against India in July is not guaranteed.
Having recently stepped down from captaincy, Buttler also recognised that team decisions are now out of his hands. England are currently undergoing a transitional phase under new leadership, with Harry Brook taking on a key role alongside head coach Brendon McCullum.
Following the World Cup, Buttler took time away from the game, spending a week in the mountains with his family in France to mentally reset. He described the break as “refreshing” and said it helped him reflect on his performance and priorities moving forward.
Despite his personal struggles, Buttler praised England’s team environment and credited India as “worthy winners” of the tournament.
He is now set to return to India for the upcoming Indian Premier League, where strong performances could bolster his case for an England recall.
With experience and proven match-winning ability on his side, Buttler’s international future may yet have another chapter. 🏏
