Jemimah Rodrigues declared fit after three months out with a hamstring tear

India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been passed fit after three months of rehabilitation on a high-grade hamstring tear and is aiming to return on the tour of South Africa in December

Rodrigues announced the clearance herself on Instagram, writing: "Hamstring has been declared fit. After 3 months of rehab. Now I can't wait to get going."

The injury dates to 3 August, when she tore her right hamstring playing for Southern Brave in The Hundred at Cardiff. The BCCI medical team assessed it as a high-grade tear.

She has not played international cricket since, missing two tournaments India went on to win and a home series India swept.

A high-grade tear in Cardiff

The hamstring went on 3 August, during a match for Southern Brave in The Hundred at Cardiff.

India's medical staff graded the tear at the severe end of the scale, and the rehabilitation that followed ran to roughly three months.

Rodrigues gave no detail of the programme beyond its length, and the BCCI has issued no separate statement on her fitness.

She has also not said when she expects to play competitive cricket again, as distinct from being available for selection.

The tournaments she watched

India won the Women's T20 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates while she was out, then won the cricket competition at the Asian Games in Japan.

Both fell inside the window the hamstring ruled out, and India completed each of them without one of their most experienced T20I batters.

Rodrigues has been a regular in India's middle order across the white-ball formats.

A clean sweep in her absence

The pattern held at home against Zimbabwe, where India took the ODI series 3-0 and the T20I series 3-0.

That is three assignments in a row won without her, two of them titles.

Her clearance arrives with no international fixture immediately in front of it, which is why the December tour is the point she has named for a return.

Fourth on India's T20I list

Rodrigues has 2,824 runs in women's T20Is at a strike rate of 119, which places her fourth on India's all-time list in the format.

Her most recent international appearance was India's defeat to Australia at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England in June.

The gap since that match now runs to five months.

A full tour in South Africa

The December tour is a three-format trip. Cricket South Africa added a three-match T20I series to the original itinerary in August, so the schedule now carries a one-off Test, three ODIs and three T20Is.

Under the schedule published then, the Test opens on 9 December at St George's Park in Gqeberha, and the ODIs follow at Boland Park in Paarl, Newlands in Cape Town and the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

The T20I leg starts on Boxing Day at Willowmoore Park in Benoni and closes with two matches at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on 29 and 30 December.

Cricket South Africa framed the extra matches as preparation for the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy, which follows the series.

A fitness clearance is not a selection, however, and the squad for the tour has yet to be named.

Rodrigues has not played for India since June, and whether that wait ends in South Africa now rests with the selectors.
