Ferguson, Santner and Latham Lead New Zealand to 2-1 Series Advantage

New Zealand national cricket team produced a dominant all-round display to defeat South Africa national cricket team by eight wickets in Auckland, taking a 2-1 lead in the T20I series.
New Zealand’s bowlers set up the victory by restricting South Africa to 136 for 9, despite expectations of a high-scoring contest at Eden Park. Mitchell Santner led the charge with 2 for 21, striking key blows in the middle overs, while Ben Sears and Kyle Jamieson chipped in with two wickets apiece.
Lockie Ferguson delivered a standout spell, conceding just nine runs in his four overs while claiming a wicket—one of the most economical performances at the venue. South Africa struggled throughout their innings, with only George Linde and youngster Nqobani Mokoena making notable contributions, the latter top-scoring with an unbeaten 26 from No. 10.
In response, New Zealand made light work of the chase. Devon Conway and Tom Latham put on a commanding 96-run opening partnership, effectively sealing the match within the first 11 overs.
Latham, playing his first T20I in nearly three years, anchored the innings with a composed 63 not out, bringing up his fourth half-century in the format. Conway supported with a fluent 39 before departing, but the result was never in doubt.
New Zealand reached the target with 22 balls to spare, underlining their superiority on the day. With Santner set to hand over captaincy duties to Latham for the remaining matches, the hosts will look to carry this momentum forward and clinch the series in the upcoming fixtures.
