David Hussey Leaves Victoria Role to Join New Global Cricket Venture

David Hussey has stepped down as head of men’s cricket at Cricket Victoria to take up a position with a new global cricket venture that the organisation is preparing to launch.

The former Australia batter had been serving in the role since August 2022 after moving on from his coaching stint with the Melbourne Stars. During his tenure, Hussey oversaw Victoria’s men’s program, contributed to selection decisions and helped shape the development pathway for emerging players.

Under his leadership, Victoria reached two Sheffield Shield finals and one domestic one-day final, although the team narrowly missed out on securing silverware. Hussey was also credited with strengthening Victoria’s long-term squad planning by focusing heavily on homegrown talent development.

As a player, Hussey enjoyed a decorated career with Victoria, representing the state in 87 Sheffield Shield matches, winning three Shield titles and captaining the side on 21 occasions.

Cricket Victoria general manager Graham Manou praised Hussey’s contribution to the organisation, highlighting both his leadership and his impact on the wider Victorian cricket system.

The announcement comes shortly after Victoria secured the services of head coach Chris Rogers on a two-year contract extension following another strong Sheffield Shield campaign.

While details of the new global venture remain undisclosed, Hussey’s departure marks a significant leadership change for Victoria as the state continues its pursuit of a long-awaited domestic title.
