Chennai Super Kings’s struggles in IPL 2026 deepened after a 43-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with experts pointing to poor planning and lack of adaptability as key issues.
Former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu was blunt in his assessment, saying the team “just stuck to that bad plan” during the death overs, allowing RCB to seize control of the match.
The turning point came late in the first innings when Tim David launched a brutal assault. RCB surged from 153 for 3 in the 16th over, plundering runs at will as CSK’s bowlers failed to respond with alternative tactics.
Aaron Finch echoed similar concerns, questioning both strategy and execution. “When you’re missing both planning and execution, that’s worrying signs,” he said, highlighting the absence of on-field adjustments as the innings spiralled out of control.
CSK’s death overs told the story: multiple expensive overs, including one that went for 30, exposed their inability to adapt under pressure. While young pacer Anshul Kamboj showed some control, others struggled with consistency and direction.
Rayudu suggested the issue wasn’t just execution but decision-making under pressure. He felt there was no intervention from leadership to pause, reassess, and guide bowlers—something crucial in high-scoring T20 contests.
The reliance on a fixed around-the-wicket strategy also came under scrutiny. Historically, CSK had avoided such rigid approaches under MS Dhoni, but the current setup appears less flexible.
In contrast, RCB have impressed with their adaptability and clarity. Finch praised them as “a team making the right decisions at the right time,” underlining their sharp game awareness.
With three straight defeats, CSK now face mounting pressure to rethink both strategy and execution before their campaign slips further.
