Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has pulled out of the 2026 season of the Pakistan Super League after securing a contract with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
Muzarabani had been signed by Islamabad United, but it is understood he informed the franchise of his decision to withdraw after confirming his IPL deal with KKR on Friday.
The tall Zimbabwe pacer replaces Bangladesh left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who had originally been bought by KKR at the IPL 2026 auction for INR 9.2 crore. The Board of Control for Cricket in India later instructed the franchise to release Mustafizur, after which he joined Lahore Qalandars for the upcoming PSL season.
Muzarabani was initially unsold at the PSL auction on February 11 but was later brought in by Islamabad United as a direct signing after they released West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph. However, the opportunity to join the IPL champions proved decisive in his decision to switch leagues.
The scheduling clash between the IPL and PSL for the second consecutive year has created several player availability conflicts. Last season, South African allrounder Corbin Bosch withdrew from the PSL after signing as an injury replacement for Mumbai Indians, resulting in a one-season ban from the PSL.
It remains unclear whether the PSL will impose a similar penalty on Muzarabani. Tournament officials have yet to confirm whether disciplinary action will follow his withdrawal.
Muzarabani’s demand has risen significantly after an impressive campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where he took 13 wickets in six matches and helped Zimbabwe reach the Super Eight stage. His strong performances, including a four-wicket haul against Australia, highlighted his growing reputation as one of the most effective fast bowlers in the T20 format. 🏏
