Ashwin’s YouTube Channel Halts CSK Coverage Amid Backlash Over Guest Comments

Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel has announced it will no longer preview or review Chennai Super Kings (CSK) matches for the rest of IPL 2025, following backlash over critical remarks made by a guest on the platform.

The controversy stemmed from comments by Prasanna Agoram, a former data analyst for South Africa and RCB, who questioned CSK’s decision to play Afghanistan wristspinner Noor Ahmad ahead of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. He suggested the team might have been better off adding a batter rather than fielding a third spinner. The remarks sparked strong reactions on social media, especially as CSK endured a third consecutive defeat — including rare home losses to RCB and Delhi Capitals — and currently sit ninth on the points table with just two points from four games.

The video was later removed, and the channel issued a statement distancing itself from the comments.

“Given the nature of discussions on this forum over the past week, we want to be mindful of how things can be interpreted,” the channel’s admin said in a note. “We’ve decided to step away from covering CSK matches—both previews and reviews—for the rest of the season. The views expressed by our guests do not reflect Ashwin’s personal opinions.”

Despite Noor Ahmad currently leading the Purple Cap race with ten wickets in four innings, the combined tally for Ashwin and Jadeja stands at just four wickets from eight.

When asked about the situation after CSK’s defeat to DC, head coach Stephen Fleming said, “I have no idea. I didn’t even know he [Ashwin] had a channel, so I don’t follow that stuff. That’s irrelevant.”

CSK’s season has been marked by inconsistency and frequent changes, with 17 players used across just four games — including all seven overseas players — a notable shift from their traditionally stable selection strategy. There's also growing public debate around MS Dhoni’s batting role and position in the lineup.
