Scotland have bolstered their emerging talent pool by naming Ali Orr and Conor McKerr in their A squad for next month’s tour of Jersey. The selection reflects Cricket Scotland’s continued push to expand depth and identify future international prospects.
Orr, a 24-year-old opener currently with Hampshire, was once regarded as one of England’s brightest young batting talents after progressing through the ranks at Sussex. Although his momentum slowed following a broken arm early in his Hampshire stint, his inclusion offers Scotland a promising top-order option. Eligible through his mother’s Scottish heritage, Orr expressed pride in the opportunity to represent his roots while balancing county commitments.
Fast bowler McKerr, 28, brings experience from years in English county cricket, having qualified as a local player through his British passport. Originally part of South Africa’s Under-19 setup in 2016, McKerr is eligible for Scotland via his father’s side and adds valuable pace depth to the squad.
Cricket Scotland emphasized that the final squad remains subject to player availability, particularly for those contracted to county sides. Orr, for instance, could miss the tour if selected for Hampshire’s County Championship fixtures.
The tour will see Scotland A take on Jersey’s national team in a four-match T20 series at the Grainville Cricket Ground across April 18 and 19. The fixtures are part of a broader development pathway aimed at preparing players for the demands of international cricket.
Head of performance Steve Snell highlighted the importance of the A-team program, noting it offers both opportunity and a platform to assess players for future senior selection.
Under ICC eligibility rules, both Orr and McKerr remain available for England selection even if they represent Scotland, ensuring flexibility as their international careers evolve.
