Tanay Thyagarajan's nine wickets seal an innings win for Hyderabad over Tripura

Left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan took nine wickets in the match as Hyderabad opened their Ranji Trophy campaign with an innings win over Tripura inside three days
Hyderabad beat Tripura by an innings and 40 runs at the Gymkhana Ground in Secunderabad on Tuesday, bowling the visitors out for 134 and 120 on either side of their own first-innings 294.
Tanay Thyagarajan returned 3-37 in the first innings and 6-52 in the second for match figures of nine for 89, and was named player of the match.
Mohammed Siraj, leading Hyderabad, removed both Tripura openers second time around and finished with 2-19. Tripura, who won the toss and batted, took nothing from the game.
Aniketh Reddy sets the tone on day one
Tripura began comfortably enough. Openers Bikramkumar Das, who made 50 from 107 balls, and Hrituraj Roy, who made 33 from 70, put on 80 in 23.2 overs.
Thyagarajan broke the stand and took three quick wickets to leave Tripura 82 for 3, among them Hanuma Vihari, the former India batter, bowled for a second-ball duck.
From there the innings disintegrated. Fellow left-arm spinner G Aniketh Reddy ran through the lower middle order for 5-21, and only Mandeep Singh, with 24 from 52 balls, reached double figures after the openers.
Tripura were all out for 134 in 44 overs, the last ten wickets falling for 54.
Sandip Sarkar's eight wickets keep Tripura in it
Hyderabad's reply was far from untroubled. Off-spinner Sandip Sarkar took all four wickets to fall on the opening evening, Hyderabad slipping from 60 without loss to 66 for 3 in the space of two overs.
Tanmay Agarwal, unbeaten on 48 at the close, added six more the next morning before Sarkar had him for 54 from 122 balls. Abhirath Reddy had earlier made 32 from 56, and K Himateja 18.
The innings was rescued lower down. Debutant Ruthik Mende top-scored with 61 from 150 balls, Rahul Radesh ground out 40 from 119, and Chama Milind counter-attacked for 40 from 55 balls with five fours and two sixes.
Sarkar finished with 41.2-6-96-8, but Hyderabad's 294 in 103.2 overs had given them a lead of 160.
Siraj strikes with the new ball
Tripura needed a substantial second innings and never got near one. Siraj had Das for 11 and Roy for 5 to reduce them to 25 for 2 inside seven overs.
Thyagarajan then removed Vihari for 1, Mandeep Singh for 7 and captain Manisankar Murasingh for 10, and Tripura were 43 for 5 with more than a day still to play.
They closed the second evening on 99 for 7 from 33 overs, 61 runs behind with three wickets standing.
Thyagarajan finishes it on the third morning
The end came quickly on Tuesday. Sentu Sarkar made 27 and Sridam Paul 25, the only scores of substance in the innings, before Thyagarajan took the last of his six wickets.
His second-innings analysis read 16.2-6-52-6, and Tripura were dismissed for 120 in 41.2 overs, forty short of making Hyderabad bat again.
It was Thyagarajan's 12th five-wicket haul in 37 Ranji Trophy matches, and the second time in the game that Hyderabad's spinners had taken Tripura apart.
Seven points and a trip to Andhra
The win is worth seven points to Hyderabad, the maximum available for an innings victory, and leaves Tripura without a point from their opening fixture of the season.
For Tripura, Vihari's scores of 0 and 1 were the game's sharpest disappointment, the former India batter dismissed twice by the same bowler.
Hyderabad next face Andhra on October 18.
Scorecard: Tripura 134 (44 overs) and 120 (41.2 overs) lost to Hyderabad 294 (103.2 overs) by an innings and 40 runs.
