Suryakumar rises to third place on IPL 2025 Orange Cap standings

After Mumbai Indians' emphatic win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday night, Suryakumar Yadav surged to third place in the IPL 2025 Orange Cap standings, intensifying the race at the top. His unbeaten 40 off just 19 balls lifted him to 373 runs for the season—just four runs shy of Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran, who now sits in second place after being overtaken by Gujarat Titans’ B Sai Sudharsan earlier.

Pooran, who had led the charts from Match 7 to Match 39, has hit a rough patch recently, slipping to 377 runs from nine innings. Meanwhile, Suryakumar has quietly pieced together an impressively consistent campaign with scores of 29, 48, 27*, 67, 28, 40, 26, 68*, and 40*—never once being dismissed for a single-digit score.

Jos Buttler (GT) follows in fourth with 356 runs, while Mitchell Marsh (LSG) rounds out the top five with 344. Ten batters have now crossed the 300-run threshold, with Sudharsan the only one past 400. Other notable names in this club include Aiden Markram (LSG), KL Rahul (DC), Virat Kohli (RCB), Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR), and Shubman Gill (GT).

Despite high pre-season expectations, no SRH batter has broken into the top ten. Heinrich Klaasen, however, is knocking on the door at No. 11, with 281 runs—his latest contribution being a fighting 71 off 44 balls against MI.

On the bowling front, Prasidh Krishna (GT) maintains a comfortable lead with 16 wickets from eight matches. A crowded field follows with seven bowlers tied on 12 wickets, including Hardik Pandya, who joined the group after returning figures of 1 for 31 against SRH.

According to ESPNcricinfo’s criteria, which prioritize bowling average in case of a tie, GT’s R Sai Kishore currently holds second place, followed by CSK's Noor Ahmad and DC's Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep also boasts the best economy rate among the bunch at 6.50, with Noor next best at 7.66. The rest, including Hardik, Hazlewood, Siraj, and Shardul Thakur, have all been going at over eight an over.
