South Africa sealed an unassailable 2-0 lead in their T20I series against Pakistan with a composed six wicket win in the rain affected second match in Benoni. After a competitive contest in the opener, Pakistan were unable to replicate their fight and surrendered the series with a subdued performance.
In the first T20I in Potchefstroom, Pakistan had pushed South Africa to the brink, posting 180 for 9 and stretching the chase to the final ball. However, the second encounter, reduced to 14 overs per side due to weather interruptions, told a very different story.
Put in to bat, Pakistan struggled from the outset and could only muster 100 for 9. South Africa’s bowlers kept tight control throughout. Ayabonga Khaka was outstanding, claiming 3 for 10 in her two overs, while Masabata Klaas returned figures of 2 for 14. Nonkululeko Mlaba was equally economical, conceding just 16 runs from three overs. Only four Pakistan batters reached double figures, with Aliya Riaz top scoring with 20.
Chasing 101, South Africa made a brisk start. Sune Luus and Tazmin Brits added 30 inside four overs before Brits and captain Laura Wolvaardt extended the advantage. Though there was a brief wobble in the middle overs, Wolvaardt anchored the chase with an unbeaten 40 from 29 balls, guiding her side home in 13.2 overs.
With one match remaining in Benoni on Monday, South Africa have already wrapped up the series, continuing their recent dominance over Pakistan in the format.
