Sophie Devine's 55 from 24 balls completes the Scorchers' double over the Stars

Sophie Devine's 55 from 24 balls and two wickets carried Perth Scorchers Women past Melbourne Stars Women at North Sydney Oval and kept them unbeaten in the Women's Big Bash League

Melbourne Stars Women chose to bat and were held to 136 for 6 from their 20 overs, a total that never looked adequate once Devine began to swing. Perth Scorchers Women answered with 137 for 4 in 15 overs, winning by six wickets with 30 balls unused.

Devine came in at the fall of the first wicket and reached fifty from 21 deliveries, the quickest of her Women's Big Bash League career, before holing out for 55. She had already taken 2-18 from three overs.

It was Perth's second win over the Stars inside a week, after a 15-run victory on 2 November, and their fourth in four matches this season.

Lanning holds a thin innings together

Meg Lanning made 56 from 46 balls with ten fours and was the only Stars batter to pass 25. She reached her fifty from 39 deliveries and fell in the 18th over, caught by Freya Kemp off Devine.

Around her the innings kept stalling. Rhys McKenna laboured to 12 from 18 before Fatima Sana bowled her, Amy Jones made 4, and Annabel Sutherland's brisk 14 from 9 ended when Devine bowled her with the score 65 for 3 in the 11th over.

Naomi Stalenberg was run out by Beth Mooney for 7 and Dani Gibson fell for 3, leaving the Stars 105 for 6 after 17.1 overs with the total still well short.

Prestwidge salvages the finish

Georgia Prestwidge rescued something from the closing overs, striking two fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 23 from 11 balls. With Charlie Dean unbeaten on 10, the pair added 31 from the last 17 deliveries.

That late burst lifted the Stars past 130, but Perth had already done the damage through the middle. Alana King conceded just 12 runs from her four overs, bowling 16 dot balls without taking a wicket.

Amy Edgar was the more expensive wicket-taker with 2-33 from three overs, while Fatima Sana finished with 1-33 and Chloe Ainsworth went for 13 from her three.

A 72-run stand off 31 balls

Perth lost Katie Mack for 2 in the third over, bowled by Sophie Day with only 14 on the board, and the chase was effectively settled by what followed.

Devine and captain Mooney added 72 in 31 balls for the second wicket, taking the score to 86 by the eighth over. Devine hit eight fours and three sixes before Day had her caught by Kim Garth.

Kemp fell for 2 to Sutherland five balls later, but with 47 needed from 70 deliveries the margin was already comfortable.

Hinkley and Piparo see it home

Mooney made 28 from 24 with four fours before Garth had her caught by McKenna at the start of the 11th over, the fourth wicket falling at 109.

Mikayla Hinkley finished unbeaten on 24 from 19 and Chloe Piparo on 14 from 16, the two of them closing out the chase at a run rate of 9.13. Day was the pick of the Stars' bowlers with 2-34 from four overs.

Two unbeaten teams at the top

The result leaves Perth Scorchers Women and Sydney Sixers Women as the only sides yet to lose, each with four wins from four. The Sixers had beaten Sydney Thunder Women by nine runs at the same ground earlier in the day.

Melbourne Stars Women have now won one of five and lost their last four, a run that includes a one-run defeat to the Sixers on 6 November.

Perth next face Sydney Thunder Women at the W.A.C.A. Ground on 11 November, while the Stars meet Brisbane Heat Women at Junction Oval the following day.

Scorecard: Melbourne Stars Women 136 for 6 (Lanning 56, Prestwidge 23*, Devine 2-18, Edgar 2-33) lost to Perth Scorchers Women 137 for 4 (Devine 55, Mooney 28, Hinkley 24*, Day 2-34) by six wickets.
