Shanaka's Four-in-Four Seals Thrilling Win as Seattle Orcas Defend 121 Against Super Kings

Pomona, July 6: Dasun Shanaka produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the MLC 2026 season, taking four wickets in four consecutive deliveries in the final over as the Seattle Orcas defended a modest 121 to defeat the Texas Super Kings by nine runs.

With Texas needing 11 runs from the final five balls, the chase appeared to be under control after Shubham Ranjane struck Shanaka for a boundary. However, the Sri Lankan all-rounder turned the match on its head with an extraordinary burst.

Shanaka first dismissed Donovan Ferreira with a deceptive slower ball before Calvin Savage holed out to long-on. Adam Milne then edged behind while attempting a desperate big hit, giving Shanaka a hat-trick, before Shimron Hetmyer completed a superb catch in the deep to remove Amshi de Silva and complete an incredible four wickets in four balls.

Earlier, fast bowler Ottneil Baartman laid the foundation for Orcas' victory with a brilliant spell of 3 for 9 from four overs. He struck early to remove both Faf du Plessis and Saiteja Mukkamalla before later dismissing Wiaan Mulder, reducing Texas Super Kings to 50 for 4 and keeping the chase under constant pressure.

Seattle Orcas themselves struggled with the bat after slipping to 15 for 3 and later 70 for 7. Cameron Gannon top-scored with 20 from No. 9, while a late flourish proved decisive as Harmeet Singh, returning after retiring hurt earlier in the innings, combined with Jasdeep Singh to collect 14 crucial runs in the final over and lift Orcas to 121 for 9.

Despite an unbeaten 40 from Shubham Ranjane, Texas Super Kings fell just short as Shanaka's unforgettable final over completed one of the most remarkable finishes of the tournament.
