Schutt Targets One Final World Cup Glory Before Passing the Torch

Megan Schutt has confirmed that the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England will be the final global tournament of her illustrious international career, with the veteran Australian pacer determined to sign off with another world title.

The 33-year-old fast bowler admitted the pain of Australia’s recent World Cup semi-final exits has become a major source of motivation heading into the tournament. Schutt said feelings of “revenge” and competitive frustration are driving her preparations as she looks to help Australia women's cricket team reclaim global dominance.

Since making her international debut in 2012, Schutt has become one of Australia’s greatest pace bowlers, collecting more than 300 wickets across formats. She first announced herself on the world stage during the 2013 ODI World Cup, where she finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker and played a crucial role in Australia’s title-winning campaign.

Despite still feeling physically capable of competing at the highest level, Schutt believes the time is right for the next generation to take over. Australia’s pace-bowling depth has grown significantly in recent years, with emerging talents such as Lucy Hamilton pushing for regular opportunities. The competition for places has become so intense that even established quicks like Darcie Brown missed out on the final World Cup squad.

Schutt explained that while retirement discussions are never easy, she does not want to remain in the team longer than necessary or risk slowing the side’s transition toward younger players. Instead, she hopes to help guide the next generation before stepping away from ICC tournaments.

Australia have already begun preparations for the World Cup with training camps in Brisbane and a series of warm-up fixtures scheduled in England against South Africa women's cricket team, England women's cricket team and West Indies women's cricket team.

For Schutt, the tournament represents more than just another shot at silverware — it is an opportunity to close one of the most successful careers in Australian women’s cricket history on the highest possible note.
