Sanju Samson Fined INR 24 Lakh for Rajasthan Royals' Second Over-Rate Offence

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has been fined INR 24 lakh following the team's second over-rate offence of the IPL 2025 season. The penalty was imposed after RR maintained a slow over rate during their match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

According to Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, a captain incurs a fine of INR 24 lakh for a second over-rate violation in a single season. The rest of the playing XII, including the Impact Player, are fined INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever is lower. Notably, the IPL has scrapped automatic match suspensions for third offences, a rule that was in place in previous seasons.

Interestingly, RR's first offence this season occurred under the captaincy of Riyan Parag, not Samson. In that game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last month, Samson had been named as the Impact Player while recovering from a finger injury, and Parag, as stand-in captain, was fined INR 24 lakh.

This latest over-rate breach came during RR’s third loss in five matches this season, a defeat that saw them slip to seventh place on the points table. The team had been on a two-match winning streak prior to the loss and will now be looking to tighten up both their gameplay and game management moving forward.
