Riyan Parag undergoes shoulder surgery, begins road to recovery

Riyan Parag has successfully undergone surgery on his right shoulder and will now begin a rehabilitation programme before returning to competitive cricket.

The India and Rajasthan Royals all-rounder shared an update on social media, confirming that the procedure was successful and expressing optimism about his recovery journey.

“For everyone who's been asking, the surgery is done and went well,” Parag wrote. “The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge.”

The shoulder issue is understood to have been troubling Parag since IPL 2025. While the injury was managed with the assistance of the BCCI medical team, surgery eventually became the preferred option after the condition began affecting his performances.

Parag's 2026 season was also disrupted by a hamstring injury, which forced him to withdraw from the India A squad for the ongoing tri-series in Sri Lanka. He was subsequently replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The injury had already impacted his IPL campaign with Rajasthan Royals. He missed a league-stage fixture against Lucknow Super Giants before returning for crucial matches later in the tournament. Despite not being fully fit, Parag featured in Rajasthan's final league game, the Eliminator, and Qualifier 2, often showing signs of discomfort while running between the wickets.

The duration of his rehabilitation remains unclear, but Parag remains positive about his return.

“Now comes a different challenge — recovery, rehab and patience. I'll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side,” he said.

The surgery marks the start of a crucial recovery phase for the 24-year-old, who has established himself as one of India's most promising all-round talents across formats.
