RCB Seek Redemption at Home as PBKS Come Charging In
Royal Challengers Bengaluru return to their home ground still in search of comfort at the Chinnaswamy in IPL 2025. They’ve won all four of their away games but are yet to register a win at home. Despite back-to-back losses in Bengaluru, RCB aren’t panicking just yet. Rajat Patidar called it a “two-match coincidence” — but they’ll need to beat one of the most dangerous powerplay teams in the league to ensure it doesn’t turn into a worrying trend.
There’s been a clear pattern in RCB’s home defeats. In both cases, they lost the toss and were asked to bat first, posting 169 for 8 and 163 for 7 on sticky surfaces that improved with dew later in the evening. In their previous game at home against Delhi Capitals, Phil Salt’s early blitz — 50 runs in just 3 overs — was a calculated move to exploit the hardness of the new ball on a slowing pitch.
It’s not just their batters who’ve struggled. The pace unit, too, has found life difficult at the Chinnaswamy. Josh Hazlewood, who has nine wickets at an economy of 8.65 overall, has returned only one wicket at an expensive 12.1 economy at home.
Punjab Kings, RCB's next challengers, arrive in Bengaluru riding high after a thrilling, low-scoring win over KKR — the lowest successful defence in IPL history. Yuzvendra Chahal, the architect of that win with a four-wicket haul, knows the Chinnaswamy well, having played eight seasons for RCB. He’s the venue’s highest wicket-taker in IPL history, with 52 scalps.
PBKS also boast the most explosive powerplay duo of the season. Priyansh Arya (strike rate: 216) and Shreyas Iyer (205) are two of the top three quickest scorers among players who’ve faced at least 50 balls this year. Their aggressive starts have consistently put opponents on the back foot.

There’s a bit of a reunion twist here, too. Glenn Maxwell and Vyshak Vijaykumar, formerly of RCB, now line up for PBKS. Jitesh Sharma, on the other hand, has switched to RCB.
Devdutt Padikkal’s struggles at home — scores of 1 and 4 — mirror RCB’s issues at the Chinnaswamy. But away from home, he’s looked solid, thanks to greater role clarity and work on his T20 game, with recent scores of 10, 27, 37, and 40*.
Glenn Maxwell, meanwhile, hasn’t found his rhythm since moving to PBKS. His batting numbers this season — 41 runs off 41 balls in five innings — echo his poor run in IPL 2024. However, his offspin has added value, returning four wickets at an economy of 8.46. Whether PBKS stick with him or bring in Marcus Stoinis remains a big question.
