Gujarat Titans bring in Dasun Shanaka as replacement for injured Glenn Phillips
Gujarat Titans (GT) have signed Sri Lankan allrounder Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of IPL 2025. Shanaka, who previously featured for GT in 2023, joins the squad for INR 75 lakh (approximately USD 87,800).
Phillips sustained a groin injury while fielding against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad over ten days ago. Following medical assessment, he was ruled out of the tournament and has since returned to New Zealand.
Shanaka’s only IPL experience came two seasons ago with GT, where he played three matches, scored 26 runs, and didn’t bowl.
Earlier in the season, GT also lost Kagiso Rabada, who returned home on April 3 due to "an important personal matter." The franchise has yet to name a replacement for the South African pacer, and his return remains uncertain.
Despite these setbacks, GT have made a strong start to their campaign, winning four of their six games to sit second on the points table. Their next challenge comes on Saturday afternoon when they host current leaders Delhi Capitals.
