Ravindra Jadeja marked his first red-ball innings of the season with a hundred, batting on until the last wicket fell as Saurashtra made 392 against Chhattisgarh in Rajkot
Jadeja made 102 from 209 balls, with seven fours, and was the last man out as Saurashtra were bowled out for 392 in 110.4 overs on the second morning of their Ranji Trophy opener at the Niranjan Shah Stadium.
It was his 16th first-class century and his ninth for Saurashtra, and it came five weeks before India's two-Test tour of New Zealand, which begins in Wellington on 19 November. The squad for that tour has not yet been named.
Chhattisgarh, who had chosen to field, were 67 for 3 in 27 overs in reply and trail by 325 runs.
Jadeja resumed the second day unbeaten on 72 and added only 11 runs in the first 90 minutes of play.
He took 51 balls to move from 72 to three figures, reaching the hundred with a single in the 110th over of the innings.
He was out in the following over, the tenth wicket to fall, having faced 209 balls in all for his seven boundaries.
It was a slower innings than the one around it. Saurashtra scored at 3.54 an over across the 110.4 overs; Jadeja's own strike rate was just under 49.
Jadeja came in at 120 for 3 in the 41st over, batting at No. 5, and was still at the crease when the innings closed.
Prerak Mankad made 129 from 150 balls with 15 fours and a six, the highest score of the innings. The two added 205 for the fifth wicket, carrying Saurashtra from 151 for 4 to 356 for 5.
Chirag Jani had made 83 from 148 balls earlier in the innings, with 12 fours and two sixes.
Saurashtra lost their last five wickets for 36 runs once Mankad was dismissed, and Dev Aditya Singh was the most successful of the Chhattisgarh bowlers.
The innings ended when Jadeja was caught and bowled by Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, who played alongside him for Saurashtra before moving to Chhattisgarh.
Dharmendrasinh finished with two wickets, and the one that closed the innings was also the one that ended the century-maker's stay.
Jaydev Unadkat, the Saurashtra captain, and Chetan Sakariya took a wicket each as Chhattisgarh began their first innings, and Jani added the third.
Chhattisgarh reached 67 for 3 in 27 overs, still 325 behind on first innings with two days of the match left to play.
Saurashtra, twice Ranji Trophy champions, have opened their season in Elite Group B, and this is the first of their group matches.
Jadeja now has 8,504 first-class runs from 151 matches, with 16 hundreds and 45 fifties, alongside 589 wickets at 24.49.
In Tests he has 4,160 runs at 37.81 from 91 matches, with six centuries and 28 fifties, and 356 wickets at 25.30.
India's tour of New Zealand opens with five T20Is from 22 October in Christchurch and runs through an ODI series before the Tests, at Wellington from 19 November and at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, from 27 November.
A number of India's Test players have gone back to their states for this round of the Ranji Trophy, which is the last red-ball cricket most of them will play before they leave.
Scorecard: Saurashtra 392 in 110.4 overs (Prerak Mankad 129, Ravindra Jadeja 102, Chirag Jani 83); Chhattisgarh 67 for 3 in 27 overs, trail by 325 runs
