Rachin Ravindra Feels Refreshed and Ready for England Tour After Early IPL Exit

Rachin Ravindra says leaving Kolkata Knight Riders early turned out to be an ideal opportunity to mentally and physically refresh before New Zealand’s important Test tour of Ireland and England.

Ravindra did not feature in a single match during IPL 2026, but the allrounder revealed that KKR management fully supported his decision to return home to New Zealand ahead of the international season. After months of continuous cricket, the brief break allowed him to spend valuable time with family and recharge before joining the national squad.

The New Zealand star explained that he would otherwise have remained away from home until late August because of his packed international schedule. He used the short break to train in Christchurch and prepare specifically for red-ball cricket in English conditions.

Despite not playing competitive matches during the IPL, Ravindra insisted he still feels ready for the challenges ahead. He believes the intense cricket schedule before the tournament, combined with regular IPL training sessions, has helped him stay in rhythm ahead of the Test series.

Ravindra also highlighted the benefits of being around experienced international cricketers during his time at KKR. He spoke about learning from senior players such as Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, while also praising the guidance of coaches Abhishek Nayar and Shane Watson.

Looking ahead to the England tour, Ravindra expressed excitement about New Zealand’s pace attack, particularly the return of tall fast bowlers Kyle Jamieson and Will O'Rourke. He described the squad’s bowling depth as one of the strongest New Zealand have had in recent years.

Ravindra also confirmed his willingness to contribute more with his left-arm spin, especially after enjoying success with the ball during the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where he finished as New Zealand’s leading wicket-taker.

Before taking on England cricket team in a three-Test series, New Zealand will first face Ireland cricket team in a four-day Test beginning May 27. Ravindra warned against underestimating Ireland, insisting every Test nation deserves respect regardless of rankings or recent results.
