PCB overrules objections as Multan lose home fixture against Karachi Kings

Multan Sultans will have one fewer home game this season after the PCB announced that their fixture against Karachi Kings on May 1 will now be played in Lahore. This match is one of two affected by a schedule adjustment, with the Sultans' home clash against Quetta Gladiators also rescheduled — pushed back by a day to May 11.

The PCB cited "operational ease and recent heatwaves in certain parts of the country" as reasons for the changes. Multan, the hottest among the four host cities, was set to stage both games in the afternoon, but due to the extreme temperatures, one has been moved to Lahore and the other shifted to an evening slot.

Despite the move, Lahore itself is grappling with intense heat, with average temperatures only about three degrees cooler than Multan. Adding to the logistical difficulties was the recent departure of over two dozen Indian production crew members, amid worsening diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan.

Sources told ESPNcricinfo that the decision has left the Sultans deeply frustrated. During discussions with the PCB, the Sultans proposed moving their match against Kings to May 6 to preserve their home advantage. However, Karachi Kings opposed the idea, arguing that it would severely impact their schedule — forcing them to play three matches at three different venues in just five days, with no rest day between travel and games.

Ultimately, the PCB mediated and decided to stick with the original May 1 date, relocating the match to Lahore. The Sultans were reportedly informed of the decision without any further opportunity for negotiation, leaving them feeling aggrieved at losing the home fixture. The PCB, while acknowledging the Sultans' dissatisfaction, defended its choice, insisting that any alternative would have led to greater disruption across the tournament schedule.

Multan Sultans, who have reached the last four PSL finals and won the title in 2021, are enduring a dismal campaign so far. They sit at the bottom of the table after losing five of their first six matches and now face the daunting task of winning all their remaining games to keep their playoff hopes alive.
