Pakistan Clear to Play India as February 15 World Cup Clash Confirmed

The uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in their marquee T20 World Cup match against India has finally ended, with the Pakistan government confirming on Monday night that the fixture will be played as scheduled on February 15, 2026, in Colombo.

The decision concludes a tense ten day impasse that had threatened one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament. After a series of meetings involving the International Cricket Council, the Pakistan Cricket Board, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Pakistan were directed to honour their group fixture against India.

In its statement, the Pakistan government said several ICC member nations, including Sri Lanka and the UAE, had urged Pakistan not to withdraw from the match, citing the financial and sporting impact on other teams and the tournament as a whole. It also confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke directly with Sri Lankan President Kumara Dissanayake to help resolve the situation.

The ICC described the discussions as positive and productive, emphasising unity, cooperation, and neutrality. The governing body said all members had agreed to respect their commitments and work collectively to ensure the successful running of the Men’s T20 World Cup.

Pakistan’s earlier reluctance to play India had been linked to Bangladesh’s removal from the tournament after they declined to travel to India for their matches. With the ICC now confirming that Bangladesh will face no penalties and will be awarded the hosting of a future ICC event, Pakistan’s primary concern has been addressed.

Focus now returns to the cricket itself. The February 15 contest in Colombo is widely viewed as the commercial and emotional centrepiece of the World Cup. Its confirmation restores a fixture that defines international cricket rivalries and ensures the tournament moves forward with its most significant match firmly back on track.
