Orange and Purple Cap Leaders: Pooran and Thakur Shine Bright for LSG

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are dominating both ends of the performance spectrum in IPL 2025, with Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh leading the Orange Cap race, and Shardul Thakur surging to the top of the Purple Cap standings after just two games.

Shardul Thakur currently leads the wicket-takers’ chart with six wickets in two matches. Thakur, brought in as an injury replacement for Mohsin Khan, made an immediate impact with figures of 2 for 19 in LSG's opening match against Delhi Capitals (DC), including two wickets in his first over.

In LSG’s recent win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he delivered a match-winning spell of 4 for 34 — the second-best bowling performance of the season so far — removing Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Abhinav Manohar, and Mohammed Shami.

Following Thakur on the Purple Cap list is Noor Ahmad of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), whose spellbinding 4 for 18 against Mumbai Indians set the tone for CSK's campaign. His wrist-spin wizardry has made him an early standout.

At third is Krunal Pandya, whose 3 for 29 on opening night for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) helped RCB start strong.

Nicholas Pooran sits comfortably at the top with blistering knocks of 75 off 30 balls against DC and 70 off 26 against SRH. Batting at No. 3, Pooran has not only been prolific but also brutal, with a tournament-high 13 sixes and a stunning strike rate of 258.91.

Hot on his heels is Mitchell Marsh, anchoring the top of the LSG order with scores of 72 (36) and 52 (31). Playing solely as a batter this season, Marsh has provided consistency and explosiveness in equal measure.

SRH’s Travis Head follows in third after picking up where he left off in IPL 2024. He hammered 67 off 31 against Rajasthan Royals and followed it up with a 28-ball 47 against LSG.

With both batting and bowling leaders wearing LSG colours, the franchise has made a strong early statement in IPL 2025.
