Orange and Purple Cap standings: CSK's Noor Ahmad leads the way

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad's 3 for 36 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chepauk has propelled him to the top of the IPL 2025 Purple Cap leaderboard, with seven wickets. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh are leading the Orange Cap standings, and CSK's Rachin Ravindra has recently entered the top five of that list.

Purple Cap Standings:

In his match against RCB, Noor Ahmad dismissed in-form RCB opener Phil Salt for 32, helped by MS Dhoni’s swift stumping, followed by the key wicket of Virat Kohli for 31. He then claimed Liam Livingstone for 10, moving past Shardul Thakur’s tally of six wickets. Noor had earlier bagged 4 for 18 in the opening game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Chennai, earning Player-of-the-Match honors. The Afghanistan spinner was acquired by CSK for INR 10 crore at the auction.

Shardul Thakur sits second with six wickets from two games. He was named Player of the Match for his 4 for 34 performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he took key wickets, including Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in consecutive balls. Thakur had also impressed in LSG’s first game, a loss to Delhi Capitals (DC), with figures of 2 for 19.

RCB's Josh Hazlewood has climbed into the top three on the bowling chart with a standout performance against CSK. Hazlewood picked up two early wickets, dismissing opener Rahul Tripathi for 5 and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for a duck. He returned in the 13th over to take Ravindra Jadeja’s wicket for 25, finishing with 3 for 21. Hazlewood had earlier taken 2 for 22 in his first match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Orange Cap Standings:

Nicholas Pooran continues to impress with his explosive hitting, sitting at the top of the Orange Cap leaderboard. He scored 75 from 30 balls against DC and 70 from 26 balls against SRH. Pooran leads the six-hitters’ leaderboard with 13 sixes across two innings and has the highest strike rate of 258.91 so far.

Mitchell Marsh, batting at the top of the order for LSG, is second with 124 runs from two games, including 72 off 36 balls against DC and 52 off 31 balls against SRH. Marsh, who is focusing on batting only this season due to injury, has been a consistent contributor at the top of the order.

Travis Head rounds out the top three, continuing his excellent form from IPL 2024. He scored 67 off 31 balls in the first game against Rajasthan Royals (RR), and 47 off 28 balls against LSG.
