Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of India’s upcoming tours of Ireland and England after suffering a left quadriceps injury, dealing another blow to India’s balance ahead of a packed white-ball schedule.
The allrounder reportedly aggravated the injury during the third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai, after initially hurting himself while bowling in the first ODI in Dharamsala. Though he returned for the final match, discomfort after the game led to further evaluation.
Reddy will now undergo rehabilitation at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for at least a month, with the aim of recovering in time for India’s expected Test tour of Sri Lanka in August.
His absence creates a major concern for India, who are already without Hardik Pandya, sidelined with a leg injury. That leaves the squad without a specialist seam-bowling allrounder for the Ireland and England tours.
Potential backup options include Shivam Dube and Harshit Rana, though neither offers the same complete allround package. Another possible replacement is Suryansh Shedge, who recently impressed with the bat for India A in Sri Lanka.
