The Board of Control for Cricket in India has permitted Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s parents to accompany him on his maiden senior India tour to Ireland and England, aiming to help the 15-year-old adjust to life in the national setup.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board will cover all travel and stay expenses, emphasizing that such support is necessary given Sooryavanshi’s young age and the challenges of being surrounded by senior professionals in an adult environment.
Saikia noted that India has rarely seen a player this young enter the senior squad since Sachin Tendulkar, making the situation unique and requiring special attention to ensure the youngster remains comfortable and mentally settled.
The teenage sensation earned his first India T20I call-up after a sensational Indian Premier League 2026 season, where he scored 776 runs at a blistering strike rate of 237.30, winning the Orange Cap, MVP, and Emerging Player awards.
Currently representing India A in Sri Lanka’s tri-series, Sooryavanshi recently found himself involved in an on-field altercation during a heated match against Sri Lanka Cricket’s A side. However, Saikia clarified that the BCCI will not interfere, stating that any disciplinary action falls solely under the jurisdiction of the match referee and umpires.
Despite modest returns of 117 runs in four innings, Sooryavanshi has maintained an impressive strike rate of 153.94, and will now look to finish strongly as India A head into the tri-series final in Dambulla.
