Nahid Rana, Two Coaches Withdraw from Bangladesh's Pakistan Tour Amid Security Concerns

Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana has withdrawn from the national squad set to tour Pakistan next week, citing concerns linked to recent border tensions between India and Pakistan. He is joined by fielding coach James Pamment and strength and conditioning coach Nathan Keily, who have also opted out of the tour.

According to BCB cricket operations chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, Rana’s decision stems from a distressing experience earlier this month while trying to leave Pakistan, where he was part of the Peshawar Zalmi squad in the Pakistan Super League. Rana and teammate Rishad Hossain were among several overseas players evacuated due to the rising tensions in the region. While Rishad has agreed to travel with the Bangladesh squad this time, Rana has opted out.

Fahim acknowledged that several other players were initially hesitant, but changed their minds after learning that most of the squad was willing to travel. He also emphasized the security assurances provided by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), noting that Pakistan ensures "the highest form of security" for visiting teams.

The tour, originally scheduled as a five-match T20I series, has been reduced to three matches, all to be played in Lahore on May 28, 30, and 31. Despite the setbacks, the BCB remains confident in the safety and significance of the tour.
