Mayank Agarwal Set to Boost Durham’s County Championship Promotion Push

Former India Test batter Mayank Agarwal has joined Durham for the remainder of the 2026 Rothesay County Championship, strengthening their promotion push in Division Two.

The 35-year-old will link up with Durham as a replacement for South Africa batter David Bedingham, who is returning home ahead of his country’s international red-ball season.

Durham have enjoyed an impressive campaign so far, winning seven and drawing three of their 10 matches. They currently hold a 40-point advantage at the top of Division Two with four games remaining and could secure promotion to Division One with a victory over Northamptonshire this week.

Agarwal brings valuable international and county experience to the squad. He previously played three matches for Yorkshire at the end of the 2025 County Championship season.

The right-hander represented India in 21 Tests between 2018 and 2021, scoring 1,488 runs at an average of 41.33. His Test career included four centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 243 against Bangladesh in Indore in 2019.

Agarwal has also been in productive form for Karnataka in domestic cricket. He scored 678 runs at 42.37 during the latest Ranji Trophy campaign, including a top score of 160 in the final.

His arrival gives Durham an experienced top-order batter as they look to complete their promotion campaign and return to Division One.

“Mayank is a hugely talented batter who has a superb first-class record. We look forward to him contributing to Durham as we look to secure our return to Division One of the County Championship.”

Agarwal will now look to make an immediate impact as Durham enter the decisive stage of their season.
