Yorkshire held firm to secure a hard-fought draw against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens, thanks largely to a composed 97 from Adam Lyth.
Chasing a challenging target of 295 in 68 overs, Yorkshire started brightly but were eventually forced into survival mode as Glamorgan pushed for a historic win. The visitors finished on 239 for 7, falling 56 runs short but crucially batting out the final overs to deny the hosts.
Lyth anchored the innings with authority, continuing his consistent run of form in recent seasons. He shared strong partnerships at the top, helping Yorkshire race to 125 for 1 before Glamorgan struck back after tea.
The turning point came when Mason Crane triggered a middle-order wobble. His variations and control caused problems on a wearing surface, as Yorkshire slipped from a position of strength to 174 for 5, raising hopes of a Glamorgan victory.
Earlier, Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson made a bold declaration, setting up a result-oriented finish. Contributions from Colin Ingram (75) and Carlson himself had lifted Glamorgan to a competitive lead, while Dom Bess starred with four wickets in a marathon spell.
As wickets fell late, Glamorgan sensed an opportunity, with debutant Ryan Hadley adding drama through a lively spell that yielded three wickets.
However, Yorkshire’s lower order held their nerve. Matthew Revis and George Hill showed resilience under pressure, blocking out the final overs as Glamorgan packed the field with close catchers.
In the end, time proved Glamorgan’s biggest opponent, with overs lost earlier in the match denying them a famous victory. Yorkshire, meanwhile, will take confidence from a spirited escape built around Lyth’s crucial knock.
