Displaying composure and technique, he batted through the innings and stitched an unbroken last-wicket stand of 32 with Ben Sanderson to guide his side to safety at 213 for 9.
Earlier in the day, Anderson rolled back the years, finishing with 3 for 45 and reaching the landmark of 400 first-class wickets for Lancashire, a remarkable achievement in an illustrious career. He struck crucial blows late, dismissing Lewis McManus lbw and then removing Louis Kimber to leave Northamptonshire on the brink.
