Lancashire 239 (Lamb 84) beat Glamorgan 204 (Bates 63, Morris 5-33) by 35 runs

Lancashire Women continued their excellent form in the Metrobank One Day Cup with a 35-run victory over Durham Women at Blackpool.

Opener Emma Lamb scored 84, while a superb spell of bowling from left-arm spinner Sophie Morris, who took 5 for 33, highlighted a jubilant performance by the Red Rose. Lancashire have now won six of their eight games in the competition and sit second in the table. Defeat leaves Durham in fifth place.

Lamb has been in fine form this season and maintained her run by reaching a half-century from 62 balls. Partnered with 20-year-old debutant Tilly Kesteven, the opening pair put on 72 runs before Kesteven holed out to Suzie Bates at mid-on off Mady Villiers for 17. Villiers then struck again, tempting Katie Mack down the track to be stumped for 5.

Lancashire briefly looked shaky, but Seren Smale joined Lamb to take the score to 142. Lamb was then bowled by Katy Levick for 84. Skipper Ellie Threlkeld edged Grace Thompson for 12, and Sophie Ecclestone followed shortly after for just 2. Smale, who had anchored the middle overs, was brilliantly caught on the boundary by Thompson off Villiers for 37, leaving Lancashire at 192 for 6 with ten overs remaining.

Late cameos from Kate Cross (24) and Tara Norris (15) added useful runs. Phoebe Turner picked up some cheap wickets to finish with 3 for 41, as Lancashire were bowled out for 239 with two balls remaining in the final over. Durham had also been costly in the field, conceding 30 wides.

Durham’s chase started poorly as Mahika Gaur dismissed Emma Marlow for a duck in a brilliant opening over. However, with Suzie Bates and captain Hollie Armitage at the crease, Durham regrouped and put together a 50-run partnership.

An excellent steepling catch by Cross off Grace Potts ended Armitage’s knock on 47. Villiers was soon dismissed for 4 by Ecclestone, followed by Mia Rogers, caught by Lamb to give Morris her second wicket. That left Durham teetering at 90 for 4.

The key contest emerged between Ecclestone and Bates, but the latter and Heath held on through numerous LBW appeals, guiding Durham to 155. Then, Heath mistimed a drive off Gaur to Cross for 45.

Morris then bowled Bates for 63 with a delivery that kept low, tilting the match back in Lancashire's favour with Durham now 170 for 6, still needing 71 runs. Morris continued her dream spell, claiming a caught-and-bowled to remove Katherine Fraser for 1 and completing her maiden five-wicket haul in List A cricket by bowling Turner for 13.

Cross returned to wrap up the innings, as Mack juggled a catch on the boundary, dismissing the final batter and sealing Durham’s innings at 204 — 35 runs short of their target.
