Kohli surpasses Suryakumar to claim top spot in IPL 2025 Orange Cap race

There was significant movement at the top of the Orange and Purple Cap standings in IPL 2025 following Sunday's double-header. Here’s the latest update:

Orange Cap Race

The Orange Cap changed hands multiple times on Sunday. First, Mumbai Indians' (MI) Suryakumar Yadav seized it from Gujarat Titans' (GT) B Sai Sudharsan after the afternoon fixture. Suryakumar smashed 54 off just 28 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), surpassing Sai Sudharsan’s total of 417 runs to move to 427.

However, Suryakumar’s reign was short-lived. Later in the evening, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Virat Kohli reclaimed the top spot by scoring 51 off 47 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC), taking his season tally to 443 runs.

The competition remains tight, with Sai Sudharsan having an opportunity to regain the Orange Cap when GT take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on Monday.

LSG's Nicholas Pooran (404 runs) and Mitchell Marsh (378 runs) complete the current top five.

Purple Cap Race

RCB's Josh Hazlewood now leads the Purple Cap standings outright. His figures of 2 for 36 against DC pushed his season tally to 18 wickets from ten games.

GT’s Prasidh Krishna follows in second place with 16 wickets from eight matches. Noor Ahmad (CSK) holds third with 14 wickets, while Trent Boult (MI), Krunal Pandya (RCB), and Harshal Patel (SRH) are tied with 13 wickets each.
