KL Rahul made a career-best unbeaten 129 and Rohit Sharma fell eight short of a hundred as India recovered from 4 for 2 to post 351 for 7 in the third ODI at New Chandigarh
India won the toss, chose to bat and were two down inside three overs, Shubman Gill going for 1 and Virat Kohli for a duck to consecutive deliveries from Jayden Seales.
Rohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad answered with 137 for the third wicket, and Rahul took the innings away at the end to finish unbeaten on 129 from 87 balls, the highest score of his one-day career.
It was not enough. West Indies replied with 352 for 5 in 48.2 overs to win by five wickets with ten balls to spare, their highest successful chase in one-day internationals.
India, who had already taken the series with wins in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati, close it out 2-1.
Gill lasted six balls for his 1, edging behind, and Kohli went next ball, bowled for nought. India were 4 for 2 with the field still up.
The recovery was slow in starting. India were 28 for 2 at the end of the powerplay, their quietest ten overs of the series.
Seales finished with 3-62 and was the pick of the West Indies attack, the only bowler to take more than two wickets.
Rohit Sharma took his time before opening up, and his 92 from 85 balls carried 10 fours and three sixes. He was caught at deep midwicket, eight runs short of a hundred.
On the way he passed 10,000 ODI runs as an opener, the fourth batter to reach the mark at the top of the order and, in 202 innings, the quickest to it.
Gaikwad made 57 from 69 balls with four sixes and a single four, and was caught at backward point once the stand had done its work.
Between them, Rohit, Gaikwad and Rahul made 278 of India's 351.
Rahul reached his hundred from 80 balls, helping a short ball from Seales over fine leg in the 49th over, and closed on 10 fours and six sixes.
It was his ninth ODI century and his highest score in the format, beating a previous best of 112 not out.
Naman Dhir kept him company for 30 from 21 balls, and Anshul Kamboj added 17 from nine at the close.
West Indies will look hardest at their fielding. Six catches were put down in the innings, four of them offered by Gaikwad and two by Rahul.
Keemo Paul took 2-71 and Gudakesh Motie 1-67, both bowling through the period in which the chances came and went.
Shai Hope batted through the reply for 162 not out from 143 balls with 17 fours and three sixes, supported by Amir Jangoo's 67 and 44 from Paul.
"Chasing is always a lot easier in India, especially with the dew," Hope said afterwards. "Glad we got over the line."
The two sides made 703 runs between them on the day, and India's only defeat of the series came in the last match of it.
Scorecard: India 351 for 7 in 50 overs (KL Rahul 129*, Rohit Sharma 92, Ruturaj Gaikwad 57; Jayden Seales 3-62) lost to West Indies 352 for 5 in 48.2 overs (Shai Hope 162*) by five wickets at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.
