Kirby Short Appointed Head of Female Cricket at Cricket Victoria

Former Brisbane Heat captain and WBBL champion Kirby Short has been named Cricket Victoria’s new head of female cricket, stepping into a key leadership role to drive the growth and development of the women’s game in the state. Short, 38, led the Heat to consecutive WBBL titles in 2018–19 and 2019–20 and captained Queensland Fire in the WNCL during a distinguished domestic playing career. She replaces Sharelle McMahon, who departed last year to return to netball, and will report to Cricket Victoria’s general manager of high performance, Graham Manou. Though a Queensland native, Short expressed excitement about the new challenge in Melbourne, citing a family connection through her grandfather Mick Harvey, a proud Victorian who grew up in Fitzroy. Since retiring in 2020, Short has remained deeply involved in cricket as a Queensland Cricket director and as a respected commentator on Fox Sports and Channel Seven. Manou praised her strong leadership credentials and elite cricketing experience, noting that her appointment comes at a pivotal time for women's cricket in Victoria, as the state looks to build on its rich legacy and elevate its female programs to the next level.
