His contract, set to run until September, would have seen him feature in several important fixtures for Essex. However, after playing in just two County Championship matches, Khaleel has opted to return home, citing personal matters that require his attention.

In his brief time with Essex, Khaleel had little opportunity to make a significant impact on the field, claiming just four wickets across the two matches he played, at a bowling average of 64.50. While his stint didn’t go as planned, the Essex Cricket Club expressed their full understanding and support of his decision. The club released a statement acknowledging the disappointment of losing the pacer but emphasized their complete support for Khaleel, recognizing the personal nature of his exit.

Khaleel’s departure has come as a surprise, particularly after his promising form for India A earlier in the year, where he showcased his skills in a match against the England Lions. Essex had hoped to see more from him across both formats—red-ball and List A cricket—as he was initially expected to play in six first-class matches and several one-day fixtures throughout the summer. Nevertheless, his early exit underscores the unpredictable nature of overseas assignments, where personal matters can sometimes take precedence over cricketing commitments.

Khaleel’s decision now opens the door for him to focus on India’s domestic circuit, where he is expected to feature in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.
