Karachi Kings Outgun Zalmi in Run-Fest to Seal PSL 2025 Playoff Spot

Karachi Kings punched their ticket to the PSL 2025 playoffs with a high-octane 23-run win over Peshawar Zalmi in Rawalpindi, where fireworks on and off the field lit up the tournament's resumption. In a contest where 451 runs were scored, David Warner’s blistering 86 off 50 balls outshone a valiant effort by Babar Azam, who struck a sublime 94 off 49.

The Kings posted a mammoth 237, thanks to Warner's early onslaught and a brutal late assault from Khushdil Shah (43 off 15)* and Mohammad Nabi, who punished Zalmi’s death bowling. Ali Raza and Ahmed Daniyal were taken apart, conceding 126 runs in eight overs between them. Luke Wood was the lone bright spot for Zalmi’s bowling, ending with a superb 2 for 19 in four overs.

Zalmi began the chase aggressively, with Babar and Saim Ayub (47) putting them ahead in the powerplay. However, despite remaining in control for much of the innings, the scoreboard pressure from Karachi’s massive total kept mounting. A crucial spell by Abbas Afridi (2 wickets), including the dismissal of Ayub, and tight overs from Mir Hamza, tilted the balance. The momentum finally broke when Babar was run out for 94 in a desperate bid to keep strike, ending Zalmi’s hopes of a miraculous chase.

While Zalmi showed spirit, scoring 28 in the last two overs to finish at 214, it was Karachi Kings who emerged victorious in this run-fuelled thriller. They now move on to Lahore for the playoffs, while Zalmi face a do-or-die clash against Lahore Qalandars on Sunday night.
