Hampshire Hawks continued their red-hot start to the Men's Vitality Blast, securing a third consecutive win with a commanding seven-wicket victory over defending champions Gloucestershire at the Utilita Bowl. Leading the charge was pacer John Turner, who claimed 3 for 28, setting the tone for a relentless bowling effort that restricted Gloucestershire to a meagre 119 all out.
The Hawks' bowling was relentless, with Chris Wood, Scott Currie, and Benny Howell all bagging two wickets apiece, conceding less than five an over. The hosts’ fielding was razor-sharp too — all ten wickets were caught, including four superb takes by Howell in the covers, equalling Hampshire’s record for most catches by a fielder in a Blast innings.
Chasing 120, Toby Albert made light work of the target with a career-best 73 not out, continuing his excellent form following scores of 54 and 28*. His innings featured four sixes, including two inventive scoops over fine leg, and he brought up his half-century in style with another maximum. Albert guided Hampshire to victory with 30 balls to spare, despite minor hiccups with the dismissals of James Vince and Joe Weatherley.
With this win, Hampshire achieved their best Blast start since 2017, while Gloucestershire’s T20 misery at the Utilita Bowl continued — they remain winless at the venue.
