Jangoo's unbeaten hundred rescues West Indies from 27 for 3 on day one in Sylhet

Amir Jangoo's unbeaten hundred lifted West Indies out of a first-session collapse and left them in control of the opening day in Sylhet
West Indies closed the first day of the second Test against Bangladesh on 216 for 4 from 65 overs, bad light ending play with Jangoo unbeaten on 102 from 155 balls.
It was an innings built from a difficult position. Having chosen to bat at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, the visitors were 27 for 3 inside the first nine overs, with Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud sharing the wickets on a morning that belonged to the home seamers.
Jangoo then put on 131 for the fourth wicket with debutant Kevin Wickham, and West Indies did not lose another wicket, Justin Greaves finishing the day on 26 not out.
Three down inside nine overs
Taskin, recalled in place of Shoriful Islam, struck in his third over when he bowled Brandon King for 9 with a delivery that shaped in and took the stumps.
Hasan Mahmud removed Kavem Hodge for 1 in the next over, the ball holding its line and hitting the top of middle stump, and West Indies were 14 for 2.
Taskin then had Joshua Da Silva lbw for 12 in the ninth over, with Hawk-Eye showing the ball hitting middle stump. Da Silva had already been dropped at slip by Shadman Islam off Hasan Mahmud.
At lunch West Indies were 86 for 3 from 26 overs, Taskin holding figures of 2-36 and Hasan Mahmud 1-33.
Jangoo and Wickham rebuild
Jangoo and Wickham came together with the innings in trouble and batted through the rest of the morning and all of the afternoon.
Neither hurried. The pair were 32 not out and 27 not out at the interval and added a little over two runs an over, but they took the match away from Bangladesh by refusing to offer the bowlers a chance.
The stand was worth 131 when it ended at 158 for 4 in the 51st over, Hasan Mahmud finding an inswinger to bowl Wickham for 61 from 145 balls on his Test debut.
A second Test hundred for Jangoo
Jangoo reached three figures in the 63rd over with a six off Taijul Islam, raising his bat and his helmet to the Sylhet crowd.
It is his second century in Tests. The first came against Sri Lanka in June, when he was dismissed for 233, still his highest score.
His innings to the close contained 10 fours and two sixes, and he has batted since the sixth over of the innings.
Greaves, who came in when Wickham fell, was 26 not out from 48 balls, the unbroken fifth-wicket stand worth 58 from 89 balls.
Bangladesh's spinners find nothing
Bangladesh again picked three spinners and two seamers, and the balance did not pay. Taijul finished the day with 16-2-45-0 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz with 15-1-34-0.
All four wickets went to the quicks, and West Indies scored at 3.32 an over across the day.
Mushfiqur Rahim returned to the side after missing the first Test, and Bangladesh were otherwise unchanged apart from Taskin's recall.
A series Bangladesh must level
West Indies lead the two-match series 1-0 after winning at the Shere Bangla National Stadium by eight wickets last week.
Bangladesh made 272 and 142 in that match, and West Indies, having bowled the hosts out for 245 in the first innings, knocked off their target for the loss of two wickets.
A draw in Sylhet would therefore be enough to give West Indies the series, and Bangladesh must take 20 wickets from here to level it.
Scorecard: West Indies 216 for 4 in 65 overs (Amir Jangoo 102*, Kevin Wickham 61, Justin Greaves 26*) against Bangladesh, day one, Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
